We also talked about how MATH and SCIENCE can not be separated. We used math to calculate our weight on different planets. We INFERRED the MASS of the planet based on our weight.

Second & Third- Monday, October 21 & Thursday, October 24
This week we created constellations using rocks and chalk. We used rocks to represent the stars and chalk to represent the connections between the stars. We also created and named our very own constellations
First & Second- Monday, October 21 & Thursday, October 24
This week we continued our exploration of AIR and SCIENTIFIC TOOLS. We learned the a WIND VANE tells the 4 CARDINAL DIRECTIONS, NORTH, EAST, SOUTH AND WEST. We made wind vanes and tested them outside.
We also made kites this week. We learned that a kite will only fly if air is moving quickly past the kite. Thursday was slightly breezy but not an ideal day for flying kites. We made wind by running with our kites.
Kindergarten- Monday, October 21 and Thursday, October 24
I've got a double post for you today!
This week we continued our investigation about bats. We learned a cute chant to the tune of "Freire Jacques" and made a stick puppet to go with the chant. We made a graph on the wall to show how many kids liked/did not like bats. We also read a non-fiction piece about bats, created factual sentences and drew a matching picture.

Second & Third- Thursday, October 17, 2013
Today we watched a video called “All about Stars.” We learned about the HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE,
looked at different GALAXIES, and learned about the size and heat of
stars. We found out that the MILKY WAY
is a SPIRAL GALAXY and that our nearest star, the SUN, is an average size star.
We finished our activity on constellations. We made constellation viewers.
First & Second - Thursday, October 17, 2013
Today we explored wind with PINWHEELS. The pinwheels remind us of the anemometer
that we learned about on Monday. They
can help us describe wind speed.

Kindergarten- Thursday, October 17, 2013
Today we talked about what we know about BATS. Then we read non-fiction book called BATS. After, we made a mini book about bats based on what we knew/learned.
Second & Third- Monday, October 14, 2013
Today we began exploring matter beyond our SOLAR
SYSTEM. We discussed STARS and
CONSTELLATIONS. We watched a short video
on the constellations that are visible during OCT-DEC in the northern
hemisphere. We started an activity that
we will continue on Thursday.
First & Second- Monday, October 14, 2013
Today we learned about air by exploring BUBBLES. We saw that WIND can move bubbles. We learned
that a METEOROLOGIST uses a weather tool called an ANEMOMETER to measure wind
speed. We built an anemometer and tested
it outside. The anemometer helped us
understand that the wind was CALM.

Thursday, October 10, 2013- First and Second Grade
Today we reviewed the four types of clouds:
-We discussed the storm last night and what clouds produced the rain.
-We used shaving cream on the tables to show STRATUS, CIRRUS, CUMULUS, and CUMULONIMBUS clouds.
-WE HAD SOOOOOO MUCH FUN.

Today we learned about the life cycle of a pumpkin.
-We listened to this SONG.
-We colored, cut and glued the cycle to a pumpkin cut-out.
-We glued yard and seeds inside the paper pumpkin.
We will finish by labeling the parts on Monday.

Monday, October 7, 2013- All Classes
Today we had a great time exploring pumpkins.
-We made a prediction about whether or not it would float and then tested it.
-We cut open pumpkins and looked inside. We saw the RIND, PULM, FLESH and SEEDS.
-We discussed the difference between WAIT and WEIGHT. Then we weighed our pumpkins.
-We learned what CIRCUMFERENCE means and measured the circumference of our pumpkins.
-We counted the ribs of the pumpkins.
-We pulled out the seeds and counted them. Boy there were a ton! We managed by putting the seeds in groups of 5 or 10 then skip counting them to add them up.

Today we reviewed 4 types of clouds and used cotton balls to model each type. See pictures on the private Facebook page.
Kindergarten, Thursday, October 3, 2013
Today we looked at and labeled the parts of an apple.
We labeled the CORE, SEEDS, SKIN, FLESH, STEM and LEAVES.
We had special help from the second and third graders who were exceptionally kind and helpful.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FOR 1 & 2 grade class....
If you have a special bubble maker, wand, or bubble kit bring it on THURSDAY, October 10.
Second & Third- Monday, September 30
Today we did 2 activities to review the LUNAR PHASES. Then we began to create a flip book with the lunar phases. We will have to finish this activity on Thursday.
First & Second- Monday, September 30
Today we read Eric Carle's book Little Cloud. Then, went outside to observe the clouds. Unfortunately, it was a clear, blue sky. Not a single cloud. So... we closed our eyes and imagined. Then we drew a picture of the cloud we were imagining and wrote a sentence about what it looked like. Later, we went inside and learned about 4 TYPES of CLOUDS. CIRRUS, CUMULUS, CUMULONIMBUS, and STRATUS.
Kindergarten- Monday, September 30
We had a ton of fun painting today. We learned that there are 4 SEASONS. We looked at how an apple tree changes through the seasons then painted 4 trees to show the changes.
